چکیده

We prove for the contact process on Z, and many other graphs, that the upper invariant measure dominates a homogeneous product measure with large density if the infection rate λ is sufficiently large. As a consequence, this measure percolates if the corresponding product measure percolates. We raise the question of whether domination holds in the symmetric case for all infinite graphs of bounded degree. We study some asymmetric examples which we feel shed some light on this question. We next obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for domination of a product measure for “downward” FKG measures. As a consequence of this general result, we show that the plus and minus states for the Ising model on Z dominate the same set of product measures. We show that this latter fact fails completely on the homogenous 3-ary tree. We also provide a different distinction between Z and the homogenous 3-ary tree concerning stochastic domination and Ising models; while it is known that the plus states for different temperatures on Z are never stochastically ordered, on the homogenous 3-ary tree, almost the complete opposite is the case. Next, we show that on Z, the set of product measures which the plus state for the Ising model dominates is strictly increasing in the temperature. Finally, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a finite number of variables, which are both FKG and exchangeable, to dominate a given product measure. AMS Subject classification : 60K35

Conditional Association and Spin Systems

A 1977 theorem of T. Harris states that an attractive spin system preserves the class of associated probability measures. We study analogues of this result for measures that satisfy various conditional positive correlations properties. In particular, we show that a spin system preserves measures satisfying the FKG lattice condition (essentially) if and only if distinct spins flip independently....

Comparison and Disjoint-occurrence Inequalities for Random-cluster Models

Geoffrey Grimmett Abstra t. A principal technique for studying percolation, (ferromagnetic) Ising, Potts, and random-cluster models is the FKG inequality, which implies certain stochastic comparison inequalities for the associated probability measures. The first result of this paper is a new comparison inequality, proved using an argument developed in Refs. 2, 6, 14, and 21 in order to obtain s...

Inequalities for Higher Order Ising Spins and for Continuum Fluids*

The recently derived Fortuin, Kasteleyn and Ginibre (FKG) inequalities for lattice gasses are investigated for higher order Ising spin systems and multi-component lattice gasses. Conditions are given for the validity of the FKG inequalities for higher order spin systems with Hamiltonians of the form used recently as models for various physical systems, e.g. He — He mixtures. We also investigate...

On the Positivity of Correlations in Nonequilibrium Spin Systems

We consider Ising spin systems, equivalently lattice gases evolving under discreteor continuous-time Markov processes, i.e., "stochastic cellular automata" or "interacting particle systems." We show that for certain spin-flip probabilities or rates and suitable initial states the expectation values of products of spin variables taken at equal or different times are nonnegative; they satisfy the...
